Oil change interval with synthetic and a bypass filter system?
Was talking to some friends back home who have been running diesels for a long long time and the subject of oil change intervals with synthetic oil came up. I'm still on the 3,000 mile page of music when it comes to changing the oil but I was told that running a full synthetic I can stretch that out to 5-7K depending on how much highway driving I do. One of the guys I talked to who runs a bypass oil system similar to the one from Sinister Diesel has gone so far as to change the bypass filter at 7,500 miles and then do a full fluid/filter change at 15,000 miles while running a synthetic oil.
Need to note that most of these guys are running the old 6.9's in farm/ranch trucks and 7.3's in the daily driver. Just wondering if I can stretch the intervals out in my 6.0. With all the driving I'm doing for work now I'm looking to do several oil changes a year and at $27.99 a gallon the T6 Rotella will start adding up in a hurry.
Thank you for any advice you can give.
