Emily_Koch published Your views: Massive Attack star criticises mayor candidate George...

A "Massive Attack" on Bristol Mayor candidate George Ferguson got ThisisBristol readers talking last week.

Bristol musician Robert Del Naja OF Massive Attack claimed George's membership of Bristol's elite Society of Merchant Venturers was a conflict of interests. You can read the full story here , but here are a few of your opinions on the situation.

Smoosername wrote: ?George Ferguson is appearing less and less independent as his campaign goes on.?

FromMendip said: "Why is the comment of one of 'Bristol's leading musicians' any more relevant than the comment of one of Bristol's leading flower arrangers, or leading kitchen waiters, or leading carpet fitters, or leading ice cream sellers, or leading refuse workers, or leading bus drivers or leading anything else that might come to mind. This man's opinion is of no more importance or relevance than anyone else's in the city. Why doesn't the Post knock on a door at random, speak to the occupier and then feature a story on that person's opinion of George Ferguson, whether favourable, hostile or indifferent??

November15 was of a similar view: ?Why is this singer even being given the opportunity to have a story here? He's a singer, not a political leader. Stay out of politics."

To which A_can_of_bees replied: "Yes, nobody but politicians should be allowed to comment on political issues. Come on sheep, let us lead you to fascism.?

And Corncups wrote: "Rob's letter has both integrity and validity. It's also welcome example of participative democracy in action, whether you agree with the points he makes it or not. Our city would be much better served by more constructive comments, across the spectrum of local opinion, rather than just mindless reactions.?
