Unfortunately, I was too far away for a good shot without a longer lens when I noticed what was happening. But, I took the shot anyway, since I did not have time to move any closer at the time and I didn't want to miss it. Just to make things worse, I got a card full error immediately after taking this shot (so I fumbled to swap cards real quick before moving in closer for more photos).
This is pretty close to a 100% crop (sorry, I was not very close), without any editing.
I've got a RAW file that I'll tweak later (I was shooting RAW+JPEG). I moved closer after this shot and took more that I'll try to PP over the next few days and give to the couple (I got their contact info and let them know I'd do what I can to get them some photos of the event). It was very emotional for sure, with tears [the happy kind] in the young lady's eyes, as she did not appear to be expecting this proposal.
Anyway, here's what is pretty close to a 100% crop without any PP (just cropping the JPEG for posting here). She said yes (and still had tears of joy in her eyes when I moved closer to get more photos after the initial proposal). I wish I would have been using a longer lens (or would have been closer when I saw this young man kneel down).
But, I hope they'll still cherish the capture of this kind of memory after I spend a bit of time working with the RAW files and closer in shots I got after this one). It made me smile for sure (as it's not often you see this kind of thing, much less capture photos of it).
What I have to work with (downsized original JPEG, but I also have a RAW file). So, I'll see what I can do with it and also give them the shots I took after I moved closer to them when I noticed the Proposal in Progress:
