Galaxy NexusThe Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been available for a few weeks and has been in the news lately. This superphone has been so popular, it was named in some top?smartphone?of the year lists even before it was released. ?The Galaxy Nexus came in fourth place in Wireless and Mobile News top ten best hottest coolest smartphones of 2011. ?The Samsung Galaxy Nexus was also a top seller in December on Amazon Wireless.

After charging and setting up the Nexus, users?receive?an update notice to ICLS53F with optimizations and glitch fixes. The NFL app was not supported at launch, however now it does work on the Nexus, you may have to download it.

The 4G LTE signal strength indicator is not set at the same rate as other Verizon 4G LTE smartphones. ?Verizon Wireless has promised an update that will fix the issue.

Some Nexus users have reported that audio volume on the external speaker is not loud enough for some. ?There was a previous update that fixed the issue on the international version of the Galaxy Nexus.

Hulu Plus doesn't appear to work on the Galaxy Nexus after December 23.

The battery will drain quickly, an extended battery will help as long as your setting are set correctly.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus Battery Tips from Wireless and Mobile News

  • Shut off?unnecessary?updates (social media).?Settings > Personal > Accounts & sync.?Note that this means you need to sync manually to collect messages, email, and other recent information, and won't receive notifications when updates occur.
  • In the Battery section of settings, it shows what is draining the battery and processes that being done in the background. Open Settings > Device > Battery. The list at the bottom of the screen shows the breakdown
  • It may help to deactivate NFC
  • Go into settings-developer options. Then check "Don't keep activities".
  • Also, go into "background process limit", and limit the number of apps you have running in the background.
  • Set your screen to sleep when not using the phone: The Super AMOLED touchscreen drains a lot of battery power. ?Go to Settings > Device > Display.
  • Some suggest turning off 4G unless you need it. ?If you are in Wi-Fi zone connect to Wi-Fi.
  • If you aren't using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or GPS, use the Settings app to turn them off. The GPS setting is located in Settings > Personal > Location services.
  • Don't leave the Maps or Navigation apps open on the screen when you're not using them. They use GPS (and thus more power) only when they're running.
  • If you know you won't be near a mobile or Wi-Fi network for a while, switch to Airplane mode: Press and hold the power switch until the Phone options dialog appears. Then touch Airplane Mode.
  • A spare battery charger, separate from the Galaxy Nexus allows you to charge a battery while using a battery in the phone. Verizon Wireless sells additional batteries and chargers.
